Is gay fisting an art form? Axel Abysse explores this provocative question in his latest project, ‘CULtural Meeting.’ This groundbreaking work transcends conventional pornography, presenting itself as a documentary capturing a daring 2019 live performance in Seoul. Conceived by Korean multimedia artist WOO YEAH as a response to the cultural constraints felt upon returning from Berlin, the event was a clandestine, politically charged act of rebellion. The performance features a stark juxtaposition: two nude women flank a stage where classical piano music is played, while Axel Abysse, perched on a platform, is fisted by WOO YEAH. The half-hour documentary, in French with English subtitles, delves into the emotional and intellectual aspects of the act, weaving together interviews and rehearsal footage. Axel and WOO discuss themes of statelessness, cultural alienation, and the tension between artistic expression and raw desire. Directed by filmmaker Wook and captured through the lens of Taiwanese art photographer Manbo Key, the project is a raw artifact of a ‘stupid idea’ that became a powerful statement. Initially shared only by word-of-mouth, the event unexpectedly drew a significant audience, underscoring its underground impact. This film is not merely a recording but a contemplative piece on fetishism as a cultural force.
